San Diego Comicon

I just returned from the Con.

I got back from San Diego after working IGN's red carpet party they hosted for the upcoming film sequel Sin City 2.  If you've never heard of the Con, it's a massive festival that covers the most popular arts like film, TV and gaming. Fans bear the summer heat in their costume of choice while walking around the Gaslamp District. Hollywood studios send out their biggest talent to promote their latest film. And this year, I got scared by a man dressed up as a bush hiding in the dark while walking to dinner with a friend. All quite fun, really.

A Star Wars smorgasbord.

I wanted to travel light for this work trip. This called for versatile separates and light dresses in breathable fabrics that could easily transition from day to night. I knew the day of the party was going to have me on my feet. Read: flat shoes.

Checking lighting in the on-site studio where a live-stream of the day's events were being broadcasted online.

The humid temperatures and low powered A/C proved challenging to keep cool. And the additional spotlights set up along the red carpet killed any matte makeup effect. The dewey look is in, right?

I lived in my BCBG Runway Dakota dress from morning to the wee hours of the night. The drop-waist and low pockets downplay this all-silk ensemble. (Other sweet white dresses found here and here.)

My friend Anne brings her own brand of inscouiant cool whenever I see her. A baby doll with Chuck Taylors at the party. Stop it right now. No wonder she's my style crush.

The next day called for something a little more off-duty while catching up with dear friends. Cut-off denim shorts and my new favorite Sundry button-down with a little heel keeps the look more polished than I'm-cleaning-out-my-garage.

One summer trend I absolutely adored at Comicon was the midriff exposure I spotted on some leading ladies. If you and your abs are ready, this skin-baring look actually evokes a sense of tasteful refined elegance in such hot climates.

Rose McIver in an AQ/AQ black cropped cut out top and Sans Souci stripe knitted mini dress.

Jessica Alba in a Tanya Taylor crop top and a Zimmerman mesh-panel skirt. I also love her side braid tucking her hair all to one side.

With Comicon over, I took the train up to Los Angeles and visited my best friend and her husband to celebrate the end of a long but productive weekend.

Squeezed in an Uber and on our way to a charity event on the beach.

Awe shucks, this is the perfect way to end my Comicon weekend.
